John David Miles began gaining recognition while an Artist in Residence at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. Roles at AVA included Count Almaviva in LeNozze di Figaro, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly Sid in Albert Herring and Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia. Know for the power and warmth of his vocal delivery as well as the intensity and naturalness of his dramatic interpretations, Mr. Miles went on to perform with many opera companies including Utah Opera, Opera Memphis, Skylight Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, and Opera Philadelphia. Additional roles include Marcello in La Bohème, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, and Top in Copland’s Tender Land which was recorded for broadcast on PBS.

 

In concert, Mr. Miles has performed as soloist in the Requiems of Mozart and Fauré, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, and Bach’s Mass in B Minor. He has also performed in several Nelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald tributes. A concert highlight for Mr. Miles was performing Dave Brubeck’s mass To Hope! A Celebration with Mr. Brubeck and his famous quartet.

 

Mr. Miles has been recognized by the Metropolitan Opera National Council as a Regional Finalist and is a recipient of the Nelson Eddy Foundation Award. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a Master of Music from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and an Artist’s Dilpoma from the Academy of Vocal Arts.
